Pierce Students Take on Livestock Judging
By Raegan Theisen
On Thursday, January 26, Pierce High students traveled to Northeast Community College for the FFA livestock judging contest.
FFA sponsor Matthew Neal states, “It was a challenging contest with several difficult classes. Overall, I am pleased with the effort. What I appreciate the most about the contest is how it pushes students to make confident decisions combined with the opportunity to defend their decisions through effective public speaking.”
Taking part in the senior division were Haylee Ferguson, Kodi Kuether, and Trever Montgomery. The junior division consisted of Alexandria Huwaldt, Cayden Holan, Seth Nelsen, Wyatt Stemick, and Weston Stemick. Montgomery was Pierce’s high scorer, placing 11th out of 120 students in the senior division.
Following the event, Montgomery says, “I thought the whole team did great. There were some difficult classes, but I feel like we all handled them pretty well. We all had practiced hard for a while and really went over reasons. I feel like the whole team was very prepared and ready for some of the livestock, even the first-year students. We all had a good time, and I hope to do the same next year.”
