Lady Jays Wrestling

Pierce Dominates Northwest

 

Scoring a resounding 182 team points, the Pierce Lady Jay wrestlers showed a dominant performance at the (Grand Island) Northwest Invite on Saturday, January 14, besting second place Adams Central, who only scored 105 team points. 

Coming home with four champions, the Lady Jays set the tone for the day. 

Claiming one of the first place titles at 100 was Icis Sackville, who pinned Hailey Webber of Ogallala in :41 and Esmeralda Aguirre of Adams Central in 4:00. 

Sister Jayan Sackville (110) also had a great day for the Lady Jays, grabbing second place with a pin in her semifinal round over Emelia Stull of Grand Island in :30. J. Sackville fell to Taylee Williamson from Chadron in 1:22 in the first place match.

Another champion for the Lady Jays was Isabelle Skrdla, wrestling at 120, who won her semifinal match in :36 over Savannah Beuter, fellow Pierce teammate. In I. Skrdla’s final round, she pinned Alex Plowman of Conestoga in 3:41.

Also bringing home a medal for the Lady Jays at 120 was Beutler, who finished in fourth place. She pinned Mia Chicoj of Grand Island in 5:06, but fell in the semifinal to teammate I. Skrdla in :36. Beutler rebounded in her consolation semifinal by pinning Kyra Skiles from Ogallala in 1:34. However, in the third place match, Grace Wioskowski of Adams Central won by fall in 4:16 over Beutler.

The third champion for Pierce was Maggie Painter, wrestling at 125. Painter pinned Mileny Dominguez Maldonado of Grand Island in 1:57. Painter then pinned Alivia Rodriquez of Ogallala in 2:13 in the semifinals and Kaley Waite of Adams Central in :41 in the first place match.

Also at 125 was Alanna McKeown, who fell to Rodriquez in :50 in her first round. In consolation round one, McKeown pinned Dominguez Maldonado in 4:04, but fell to Kyler Zimmerman from Conestoga in 4:00. 

Placing second for Pierce was Angeline Skrdla, who wrestled at 130. A. Skrdla pinned Naudia Hruby of Centura in 1:25, then won in an 11-4 decision over Sara Klein of Centura. In the first place match A. Skrdla fell to Kayden Sipp from Adams Central in 3:40. 

Another wrestler for the Lady Jays at 130 was Hayle DeBoer, who fell to Hannah Bogatz from Conestoga in 3:05 in the quarterfinals. DeBoer then pinned Samantha Torres from Grand Island in 1:23, but fell to Sarah Klein from Centura in 2:48. 

Yet another medalist for the Lady Jays was Haylee Miller (135), who pinned, in :19, Isabel Mancinas of Adams Central and Dulce Montanez of Grand Island in 5:52. H. Miller then fell to Fia Rasmussen of Chadron in 5:19 in her final match. 

Lainey Jensen, wrestling at 135 as well, fell in her first round to Rasmussen in :55 and Aubrey Olsufka of Northwest in 1:40.

Grabbing an additional second place medal for Pierce was Isabelle Kuehler at 140, who pinned Piper Moll of Adams Central in :54. In the first place match, Kuehler fell to Miah Kenny from Northwest in 4:45. 

Pierce had two wrestlers at 155, including Claudia Riggert and Candace Miller. Riggert finished in fourth, pinning C. Miller in :58. In the quarterfinals, Riggert fell to Gabrielle Landon of Conestoga in 1:59. Riggert won her next three matches, pinning Maria Martinex from Adams Central, Brooklyn Graffe of Adams Central, and Jessa Linden of York in :42, :55, and 1:57, respectively. During the third place match, Riggert had a medical forfeit to Landon. 

 

C. Miller fell in her first round to Riggert from Pierce in :58, but turned around and pinned Morales from York in 4:40. In consolation round three, C. Miller pinned Thea Wahl of Adams Central in 2:22. The last match of the day for C. Miller was a loss by fall to Landon in 2:51. 

The final first place medal for the Lady Jays went to senior Katelyn Gubbels, who wrestled at 170. Gubbels began her day by pinning Callie Taylor of Grand Island in :42, the pinned Megan Boyd of Northwest in 1:55, and finally pinned Avery Albers from York in 1:00. 

Shaylee Gardner (170) was pinned in her quarterfinal round by Avery Albers from York in :27 and fell to Sara Weber from Chadron in 1:31. 

Pierce had two wrestlers at 190, Mariah Eckert and Kira Vavra. Eckert finished in second by pinning Antonia Velasco of Grand Island in 2:41. Eckert then won by a 5-3 decision over Kira Ahlers from Adams Central, but then Eckert fell to Annsley Vernon of York in :59. 

Vavra fell to Jennifer Lopez from Adams Central in her quarterfinal in 2:32 and Kaelin Millan from Northwest in 4:52. 

Finally at 235, Lauren Ueding finished in fourth place, falling to Claire Hemberger from Adams Central in :12, then was pinned by Allee Jo Inzauro from Conestoga in 1:13. In Ueding’s third round, she fell to Chanya Zavala from Grand Island in 1:10. 

The Lady Jay wrestlers will be wrestling again Thursday, January 19, in a triangular at Battle Creek.
