PHS Golf

Golf @ LCC

On April 28, the Pierce boys varsity golf team traveled to the Cedar View Country Club in Laurel. The meet was originally scheduled earlier in the season, but due to weather conditions was postponed. 

Pierce took five boys consisting of senior Kelton Anderson; juniors Abram Scholting, Dalton Svoboda, and Jacksen Wachholtz; and sophomore Travis Emory. Anderson shot a 102,  Scholting shot an 88, Svoboda shot a 103,  Wachholtz shot a 93, and Emory shot a 76.

Anderson commented on the day saying, “Although it was a very nice day to golf, our team's short game had not been the best we've seen due to the course's conditions. I am disappointed I won't be able to compete with my team after the season is over.” 

Head coach Rick Adams also mentioned, “Overall, it wasn't our best performance but Travis did very well placing second! We are looking forward to better performances down the road.”

The varsity golfers will compete on Thursday, May 7, in Battle Creek. 


Cedar Catholic Varsity Invitational

On Tuesday, April 26, the boys golf team traveled to Cedar Catholic High School to play in the Varsity Invitational. The golf team showed up and played their best in the nice weather and results showed, with Hartington being in first, Pierce finished closely coming in second place. 

The team brought home individual honors with first place honors going to Travis Emory, who golfed a new personal best 78 and fourth place honors went to Abram Scholting.

Junior, Dalton Svoboda says he’s, “proud of the team and how they performed, but I must start carrying my own weight if we want to make a run at state.” 

The boys golf team will be back in action on Thursday, May 5, at Evergreen Hill Golf Course in Battle Creek. 


JV Golf at Osmond Invite

On April 27, the Pierce boys junior varsity golf team traveled to Rolling Hills Golf Club in between the towns of Wausa and Osmond. The meet was originally scheduled earlier in the season, but due to weather conditions was postponed. 

Pierce took five boys consisting of freshman Cooper Wachholtz, sophomore Camden Jansen, and juniors Nikolas Harvey, Matthew Steffen, and Landon Oestreich. Wachholtz shot a 97, Harvey shot a 99, Steffen shot a 107, Jansen shot a 113, and Oestreich shot a 137. 

Wachholtz ended up in the top 20 and commented, “I felt like I did well as a team; however, I believe I have a lot of room for improvement personally.” 

Assistant golf coach Jason Freudenburg also mentioned that the boys had room to grow until the end of the season, but “did well considering three individuals had personal bests.” 

The JV golfers finish out their season at Stanton’s golf course on Friday, May 6.
