Boys Golf Team Competes at the LHNE Invite

by Raegan Theisen

The Pierce boys golf team traveled to the Norfolk Country Club on Thursday, April 21, to play in the Lutheran High Northeast Invitational. The team finished with a score of 462, which propelled them to a runner-up finish.

Head coach Rick Adams states, “I was very pleased with our performance. Getting runner-up was a nice improvement for the golfers, defeating several teams who had beaten us earlier. Abram had an absolutely spectacular day, winning the tournament.”

Junior Abram Scholting shot a 76 and received first place. Travis Emory was not too far behind, tying for sixth place with a score of 86. Next was Dalton Svoboda with a 99, who tied for 23rd place. Following him was Kelton Anderson in 27th with a 100. Finally was Jacksen Wachholtz in 28th place, shooting a 101.

Junior Dalton Svoboda comments, “It was so much fun to travel with the team to Norfolk Country Club. Golf is a fun sport when you play well. I need to work on staying out of the trees because my ball seems to like them. I can’t wait to compete at Hartington next Tuesday.”

The boys varsity and JV teams will compete at multiple meets over the course of the next few weeks.

Pierce Plays in First Triangular

By Alle Koehler

On Tuesday, April 19, the boys golf team made their trip to Hartington to battle it out with Hartington Cedar Catholic and Battle Creek, who led the team scores in the triangular with a low score of 176. Pierce followed close with a total of 180 strokes.

Pierce was led by teammates Abram Scholting and Travis Emory sharing the team's best score of 43 strokes.

The entire Pierce team was able to compete at this triangular, but individual scores were not recorded.

Teammate Dalton Svoboda says, “It was a great experience despite the heavy winds. We just enjoyed having the chance to be out there and not being canceled.”

Coach Rick Adams comments on the day saying, “It was good to have all the guys get to play. We know what to work on moving forward.”

The boys golf team will be back in action at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge to compete at the invitational on Thursday, April 28.

JV Golf Competes at O’Neill

by Maggie Painter

On Thursday, April 21, the JV Pierce boy golfers traveled to O’Neill where Cooper Wachholtz, Nikolas Harvey, Camden Jansen, and Matthew Steffen all competed and placed 10th overall as a team.

Steffen, a junior, stated, “We played really well but still have room for improvement. The course was extremely long making it crucial to have good clean shots.”

Wachholtz shot a 105, Harvey shot a 108, Jansen shot a 112, and Steffen shot a 124.

Jansen, a sophomore, also shared what he thought of the tournament saying, “We didn't shoot our best, and there is still room for improvement throughout the rest of the season.”

The JV golfers compete next on Thursday, April 28, at Neligh for a quad that was postponed earlier in the season.
