Runner-Up Finish by Boy Golfers
by Maggie Painter
On Monday, April 12, the varsity boy golfers competed in their first meet of the year in Crofton, and the team as a whole placed 2nd with a score of 373 points. Individually, Pierce had two golfers in the top five and four in the top 15.
Individually, sophomore Travis Emory placed first with a low score of 82.
Emory stated, “My start was shaky, but I came back strong on the back nine shooting 2 over. I was actually a little surprised when I found out that I had come in first. We had to fill 3 out of 5 varsity spots from our seniors who graduated last year, so hopefully our team score will get lower as we gain more experience throughout the year.”
Placing fourth with a score of 89 was Abram Scholting. Placing 13th and 14th were Jacksen Wachholtz and Kelton Anderson respectively, scoring 101 points each. Camden Jansen also golfed, ending the day with a score of 121 points.
Head Coach Rick Adams comments, “Obviously, I was very pleased with our runner-up finish. The good news is that all the guys felt they could have done better, so I look for us to continue improving as the season progresses.”
The boy golfers compete again on April 21 at the Lutheran High Northeast meet.
