Mid-State Conference Art Show

The judging for the Mid-State conference art show took place on Friday, April 8, at the Sunset Plaza Mall in Norfolk. Pierce had nine students who competed in different categories. Three of these nine students received gold ribbons for outstanding artwork.
Morgan Blecher received one gold rosette for the Teacher’s Choice Exhibit along with four purple ribbons. Taylor Miller received one gold rosette for the Student’s Choice Exhibit and three purple ribbons. Matthew Steffen also received one gold rosette for Teacher’s Choice Exhibit and one purple ribbon.
Alexus Sindelar, Katie Vogt, Megan Druyor, Alexis Sporleder, and Lauren Darnall all obtained one purple ribbon. Also, Keli Shermer received two purple ribbons.
Blecher's medias consisted of oil paint and colored pencil. Miller’s medias were also oil paint and pencil art. Steffen and Druyor’s media consisted of using colored pencils. Sindelar and Darnall’s artwork were done by pencil. Vogt used watercolor for her media choice. Finally, Sporleder and Shermer’s artwork was completed by painting.
Art teacher Tim Waldner says, “The students that chose to put their works in the art show this year had a very good showing. Most of the works received purple, which is the top place. Taylor Miller, Morgan Blecher, and Matt Steffen also received higher awards for their submissions. I’m proud of the work that they created as they should be.”
Their pieces are currently on display in the high school library.
