Throwin’ It Back To ‘95 With Daniel Risinger

by Emma Risinger

Daniel Risinger, an alumni of Pierce High School who graduated in 1995, gives a general account of his high school experience.

As for classes he remembers, he looks back fondly on his history and shop classes, as well as strength and fitness. He attended the old high school, and he is quoted on his favorite memory from the place when he says, “March Phillips's file cabinet drawers getting pulled out by another student and the file cabinet tipping over and hitting the floor in old high school third flight up.” While this was likely a rough day for Phillips, a teacher at the school, Risinger seems to have gotten some humor out of the whole ordeal.

In addition to teachers Risinger remembers, there are some who still remember him too. One is Mr. Gary Shada, American history teacher who said, “He was one that did what was asked of him, and he didn’t cause problems or anything. And teaching in the old high school was different, because we have a more conducive learning environment here and that plays a role in student’s learning.”

Out of the classroom, Risinger played football and lettered multiple times. In addition to football, he also boxed outside of school. This was something he spent much of his time doing and was very passionate about. He said that he made it as far as being the runner-up for the Golden Gloves.

Nowadays, Risinger works at Nucor Steel as a melt shop mechanic. He is married to Kamille Risinger, and has three children. They are Keegan Risinger (9), Lily Risinger (13), and Emma Risinger (15).

When asked about what makes him proud to be an alumni of Pierce, Risinger said, “I am proud to be an alumni of Pierce because they have expanded their athletics program and their curriculum for students and because we have a new school.”
