Cross Country Teams Triumph at Districts

by Addison Sporleder

On Thursday, October 14, the Pierce hosted the C-3 District cross country meet at the Pierce Community Golf Course. Both teams performed very well against their competition, with the girls finishing as district champions, and the boys finishing district runners-up.

Leading the pack for the girls team was senior Callie Arnold coming in 2nd place with a time of 20:07.42. Senior Alexus Sindelar earned 4th place with a time of 20:23.30. Following Sindelar was senior Payten Simmons finishing in 6th place with a time of 20:43.28. Freshman Aylla Weeder followed after placing 21st with a time of 22:31.40. Coming in behind her was senior Katie Vogt placing 28th with a time of 23:05.16. Finally, senior Gina Wragge placed 32nd with a time of 23:37.93.

Simmons commented on the race, “This race is the best I've had the whole year. I PR’d by 34 seconds from last week, and the majority of our runners PR’d as well, so it was a great day to run. With the amount of great runners we have on our team, I truly believe our girls team can place in the top 3 teams at state.”

Starting off for the boys team was senior Christopher Efta earning 7th place with a time of 17:26.12. Not far behind was senior Brock Bolling finishing in 10th place with a time of 17:33.34. Placing 19th with a time of 18:30.83 was junior Ashton Koch. Junior Blake Bolling followed behind placing 25th with a time 18:55.84. Close after him was freshman Elijah Streff coming in 28th with a time of 19:00.91. Finally, placing 56th was sophomore Bo Bockelman with a time of 20:44.05.

Head coach Gary Shada stated about the meet, “Anytime you have an opportunity to race on a course prior to running a meet like districts, it helps a lot, so the fact that we ran conference on this course helped out quite a bit.”

Both teams will be back in action for the state cross country meet which will be held at the Kearney Country Club on October 22.
