Lady Jays Golf

Pierce Hosts Girls Golf Invite

The Pierce girls golf team hosted an invite on Saturday, September 12, at the Pierce Community Golf Course. Overall, the Pierce team finished in 4th place.

Sophomore Alena Peters placed ninth with a score of 100. 

Peters commented on the invite by saying, “I felt as a team we did pretty well. I got my best score all year so I was ecstatic about that.”

Senior Rebecca Albrecht had a score of 105, and sophomore Keli Shermer shot a score of 108. Sophomore Zaylah Pfanstiel had a score of 117, and freshman Ashley Wacker had a score of 118. 

Head coach Melinda Stelling said, “The girls played pretty well. They all tied or improved their 18-hole season best.” 

The girls golf team’s next performance will be a triangular on Thursday, September 17, at Wayne. 


Golf Achieves Victory

On Thursday, September 10, the girls’ golf team hosted a triangular with Hartington Cedar Catholic and Norfolk Catholic. Out of the three teams, Pierce ended up getting first place, Hartington CC ended in second place, and Norfolk Catholic ended in third place. 

As for individual scores, senior Rebecca Albrecht finished in second place with a score of 46, and sophomore Alena Peters received fourth with a score of 53. Sophomore Keli Shermer had a score of 55, sophomore Zaylah Pfanstiel ending with a score of 55, and freshman Ashley Wacker had a score of 60.

Head coach Melinda Stelling said, “I was really happy at the end knowing that we came out on top because Hartington CC and Norfolk Catholic had beat us in previous meets, and it shows that they kept playing and trying their best.”

The Lady Jays will travel to Wayne for a triangular on Thursday, September 17.
