5 Reasons Why Phones Should be Allowed in School
by Kennedy Warneke
Having your phone during school in today’s world is one way teens feel more safe while attending school for the day. The school handbook states that if a student is caught using their phone without permission during the day then they will have in-school suspension. In the situation of emergencies, students are instructed to sit in the office and make a call, but in the case of a school shooting, students don’t have their phones to call for help or even call their parents. Allowing phones in school will also give the students another research tool, considering our computers have many sites blocked. Cell phones can also be used as a reminder tool for students homework assignments because most students don’t have a planner to write their assignments in and some can’t remember what they had for homework. Teachers can also use phones during school to send out a message to all the students if they need to remind them on a subject they forgot to mention during class. Students can also use cell phones to access Google Calendar and other apps to let the students become more independent. Although cell phones can provide somewhat of a distraction during class, they can also be an asset to the student by teaching them responsibility and preparing them for their future jobs while also giving them the assurance that they are safe.
