Taking Steps Into Our Future
by Kennedy Warneke
At Pierce High School, students in grades 9 and above consulted with an assigned advisor to discuss the short and long term goals that students want to achieve and how they could reach their goals. Students met with their advisor to review grades, talk about goals, and set a plan of how to accomplish the goals they set.
This year, the staff wanted the students to focus on their strengths, passions, and finding one goal for this school year. They also have students think about what can help them reach a long-term goal and finding systems in and outside of school that will give them experience for their future job. Mr. Mark Brahmer, who started the stepping stones program at Pierce High says, “We want students to focus on finding one main short and long term goal and set a target and a plan to reach their goals.” As students learn to set goals on their own, they will be more successful in school, community, and after college.
