Band and Choir Give ‘Superior’ Performances at District Music Contest

The PHS band and choir competed at the district music contest Friday, April 20, in Norfolk. The band and choir both received a superior rating for their contest pieces.

Receiving superior ratings for choir was the full choir, as well as the girls misc. ensemble of Mackenzie Richmond, Courtney Yawn, Sydney Slater, Rose Graham, Rhylie Roth, Brianna Furstenau, Samantha Hartman, Angelica Volquardsen, Destiny Ronnfeldt, Kaycie Druyor, Tazlynn Sporleder, Katelynn Anderson, Autumn Hanna, Emily Garcia, and Paige Snodgrass. The trio of Maiya Baumann, Sydney Erickson, and Emilia Goetsch also received a superior, along with soloists Brianna Furstenau, Rose Graham, and Sydney Erickson. Another superior was earned by the show choir of Angelica Volquardsen, Destiny Ronnfeldt, Tazlynn Sporleder, Samantha Hartman, Miles Garcia, Colt Arnold, David Dale, Maggie Dale, Rose Graham, McKenna Shonka, Hannah Whitmore, Alexis Schnoor, Ian Fisher and Maiya Baumann. Receiving excellent ratings for choir was the boys glee of Devan Roth, Ian Fisher, Colt Arnold, Miles Garcia, Aiden Pfiel, David Dale, Alex McKeown, Trevor Zellmer, and Seth Valverde; soloists Maggie Dale and Ian Fisher; girls’ glee group of Samantha Hartman, Angelica Volquardsen, Destiny Ronnfeldt, Kaycie Druyor, Tazlynn Sporleder, Katelynn Anderson, Autumn Hanna, Emily Garcia, Paige Snodgrass, Mackenzie Richmond, Courtney Yawn, Sydney Slater, Rose Graham, Rhylie Roth, Brianna Furstenau, Maiya Baumann, Sydney Erickson,  Emilia Goetsch, Hannah Whitmore, Samantha Plessel, Angelina Salinas, and Maggie Dale; and the duet of Angelica Volquardsen and Rose Graham. 

The band received Division I superior ratings all across the board. Their entries included the full band; piano soloists Abigail Meier and Katrina Meier; the piano duet of Katrina Meier and Abigail Meier; snare drum soloist Dylan Delka; the duet of Janae Arens and Ellie Peters; and the brass quintet of Abbey Sedlacek, Jacob Pedersen, Kyler Peters, Mason Sindelar, Wyatt Flesner. Other soloists were Alexander Kesting with an alto saxophone solo, Klarissa Norris with a flute solo, and Abbey Sedlacek with a trumpet solo. Brianna Aguilera, Jacob Pedersen, and Shawn Rinkel performed a trumpet trio; Amber Albrecht, Kiley Bierman, Stephanie Rinkel, and Abigail White performed a mixed clarinet quartet; Macie Timm and Mason Sindelar performed a trombone duet; and Alex Kesting, Abbey Fuerhoff, Kiley Bierman, and Rebecca Albrecht performed a saxophone quartet. Also performing and earning a superior was the jazz band of Caydan Retzlaff, Macie Timm, Rachel Fenton, Kiley Bierman, Matthew Williams, Abbey Sedlacek, Brianna Aguilera, Angelica Volquardsen, Alexander Kesting, Peter Halsey, Abbey Fuerhoff, Abygail Streff, Jacob Pedersen, Grace Spieker, Dylan Delka, Katrina Meier, Rebecca Albrecht, and Klarissa Norris.
