Eight Make Class B Honor Band
by Noah Fisher
Eight PHS band members achieved class B honor band distinction and participated in a concert on Saturday, March 28, at Johnny Carson Theater.
Pierce High’s band members who received honors were Bryce Bierman, alto sax; Rachel McGill, tenor sax; Matt Proffitt, tuba; Devin Kerber, baritone sax; Breanna Attema, trumpet; Kayla Reinke, percussion; Kristin Arens, clarinet; and Ethan Hanson, tuba. These students along with band members from throughout class B were directed by Shane Macklin, band director at Morningside College, as they played a selection of five pieces. The songs the band played were “Under the Double Eagle,” “Reverberations,” “Blue and Green Music,” “American Fanfare,” and “Suite on Celtic Folksongs.
PHS director Mike Sindt said, “I think having these eight musicians play in a different setting then at home it helps them bring different experiences back home. It really helps us increase the musicianship in our band.”
Band members will be playing for the public at their pre-contest recital on Tuesday, April 21. This recital will feature all of the small groups and solos that will perform on Friday, April 24, at the district music contest.
