From the beginning of the month of December, there were stuffed blue jays and blue jay mascots hanging out around the high school, and the students weren’t informed what these jays were doing.
After weeks of curiosity, the students found out on Thursday, December 18, that the blue jays had been on the watch. The Pierce FCA chapter had the PHS teachers and staff watching for students who did good things in the hallways and in the classrooms. Forty-four students were “caught” in the act and awarded for their good deeds with a candy bar.
Several students were even nominated twice by teachers and staff to receive recognition for their good deeds, and all of the winners’ names were put into a hat. One name was drawn for a bigger prize. Rachel McGill was drawn and won tickets to a movie.
Student and FCA member Tristen Sell said, “I just felt like we get kind of self-centered up here at the school, so I wanted to reward the kids that were making a conscious effort to be helpful and make somebody else’s day better.”
