Visiting the PHS medical terminology class on Friday, May 9, Dr. Lane Handke and his assistant Madonna Buss informed the class about his job, as well as how to make and remove casts.
Dr. Handke first talked to the class about being a doctor and the growing need for doctors in the future. He also talked about why he came to family practice and decided to work in a small town. Then, he demonstrated how to put on a cast by putting one on Mrs. Deb Koehlmoos, the medical terminology class’ instructor. Afterwards, the class had the opportunity to place leg casts on each other and later remove them. Once they were finished, the students got to keep their casts.
The opportunity to visit with professionals in the medical world was a great opportunity for the students of the med. terms class. “It was good for the class to hear a little bit about his profession and see how a cast was made,” said Deb Koehlmoos.
