PHS to Honor 1977 Class B Football State Runner-Up Team
Pierce High School will be honoring the 1977 Class B Football State Runner-Up Team at the Pierce vs Columbus Scotus football game on Friday, Sept. 28th. A brief recognition will take place at 6:30. The head football coach from the team, Gerry Gdowski and assistant Ron Soenkson will be attending. Other coaches for the team were Duane Spale and Tom Mruz. Please come and help Pierce High celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the achievements of this 1977 State Runner-Up team.
Offensively the team averaged 434 yards per game. They hold a school record of 352 yards rushing per game. They averaged 43.7 points per game. Defensively they held opponents to 164 yards per game. Also held opponents to 8.4 points per game. They hold a school record of 50 takeaways (25 interceptions and 25 fumble recoveries) which is an average of 4.2 takeaways per games.
