Students to Take the ACT Test

by Graison Pfeiffer

On Saturday, October 26, a few special students will be taking the test that decides if they get into their dream college, that’s right they are going to take the ACT test. The ACT test is an entrance exam used at most colleges, especially private schools. Students are able to score anywhere from one to thirty-six. With 4 sections, the test takes 2 hours and 55 minutes without the writing portion. The ACT test is usually compared to the SAT test which has a few major differences one being the Math With No Calculator section whereas in the ACT in all math you can use a calculator, also the scoring, in the ACT you can get anywhere from a 1-36, but in the SAT students can score a 400-1600. Students can take and retake this test as many times as they would like, most students do it a couple of times in hopes of raising their score. Also, beginning in September 2020 students will have the option of retaking individual sections instead of retaking the whole test. Students will also be able to take the ACT online for faster results.

When the new guidance counselor Danielle Goetsch was asked what she hoped the students got out of the ACT, she replied, “For seniors, I hope they improve their score by a couple of points and for juniors, I see it as an opportunity for them to get a sense or feel of the ACT.”

When senior Jenna Brown was asked how she prepared differently this time compared to last time she said, “Probably paying more attention in math and English classes just knowing what the ACT looks for especially reading.”

These students who put the extra time into taking the ACT test again will be anxiously waiting for October 26 where they will surely do well.
