by McKenna Shonka

Pierce’s girls’ golf team held their annual invitational on their home course on Saturday, September 8. The golf team got 3rd place with a team score of 457.

All three girls on the varsity side placed individual in the top ten at the golf meet. The top individual for Pierce was Sydney Erickson with 2nd place and an 87. Next in 6th place with a 99 was senior Samantha Svendsen. Not too far behind was sophomore Rebecca Albrecht in 8th place with a 103. Madisyn Hamm finished with a 168.

With an advantage of being on the home golf course, Coach Stelling said she was “very excited the girls placed as a team, and that was the first time they placed as a team. They had lots of fun.”

The next meet for the girls golf team is Saturday, September 15, at Planview.

Lady Jays Host Dual

by Victoria Orona

Pierce’s Lady Jay golfers teed off against O’Neill on Thursday, September 6, with a dual on their home course.

Individually, Sydney Erickson placed 1st with a 43, Rebecca Albrecht placed second with a 47, and Samantha Svendsen placed 3rd with a 48. For JV, Madisyn Hamm shot a 74.

In another highlight of the dual, Sydney Erickson was able to get an eagle on hole 8. Coach Melinda Stelling said, “It was awesome! That doesn't happen often in high school girls’ golf, so the fact that she did is amazing.”

The Lady Jay golfers’ next outing is a triangular on Thursday, September 13, at the Pierce golf course at 4 p.m.
