Speech Team Competes at Hartington

The Pierce High varsity speech team took 3rd place out of 17 teams at the Hartington-Newcastle/Cedar Catholic Invitational on Saturday, January 27. In the JV division, the Bluejays tied for 1st place.

Individually for the varsity team, Sydney Erickson was 3rd in Informative. Katrina Meier placed 3rd in both Extemporaneous Speaking and Entertainment Speaking. The OID of Macie Timm, Janae Arens, Dylan Delka, Abigail White, and Jaden Gleason placed 3rd. Arens placed 4th in Humorous Prose, Delka placed 4th in Entertainment Speaking, and Grace Spieker placed 4th in Persuasive Speaking. The duo of Kiley Bierman and Halle Ross finished 2nd in Duet Acting. Maiya Baumann was 6th in Humorous Prose, and the duo of Janae Arens and Dylan Delka placed 6th in Duet Acting.

In the JV division, Mark Venteicher was the Extemporaneous Speaking champion. Emilia Goetsch was runner-up in Humorous Prose, Samantha Hartman was runner-up in Poetry, and Alex McKeown was runner-up in Extemporaneous Speaking. Abygail Streff placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Venteicher was 3rd in Informative Speaking. The OID of McKeown, Baumann, Caydan Retzlaff, Ross, and Goetsch finished 4th. Retzlaff also finished in 4th place for Persuasive Speaking. Tanner Kuper was 6th in Informative, and Shelby White was 6th in Persuasive.

The Bluejay speakers will compete next on Saturday, February 3rd, at Guardian Angels CC in West Point.
