Bluejays Wrestling

Wrestlers Compete in Aurora Duals

Pierce High’s wrestling team traveled to Aurora on Saturday, January 20, to participate in a dual tournament. The Bluejays faced Aurora, Kearney High JV, Schuyler, Norris, and Lincoln East JV but were unable to come out on top as a team in the matchups.

The Jays fell to Aurora’s team 32-48, Kearney 27-53, Schuyler 18-60, Norris 36-48, and Lincoln East 24-55.

“Although we didn’t win a dual, the wrestlers competed hard and improved their techniques,” said coach Tyler Legate. “I am looking forward to seeing the team progress in the next three weeks leading up to districts.”

Individually, two Bluejay wrestlers went undefeated, with Cody Yawn going 5-0 at 132 and Ryder Fuchs going 5-0 at 195.

At 106, Devin Graae went 2-3. At 113, Mason Sedlacek was 0-5. Also at 113, Ethan Dohmen was 2-2. At 120, Jeremiah Kruntorad was 3-2, and also at 120, Jayden Sporleder was 0-4. At 138, Jaden Jones went 1-4. At 145, Brett Tinker was 4-1. At 152, Nelson Emerson went 2-3. At 160, Travis Jensen was 0-4. At 182, Cole Cheney was 0-5. At 220, Dylan Kuehler went 2-1, and at 285, Sam Rosno was 2-3.

The Jays will hit the mats again on Saturday, January 27, in Albion for the Boone Central Invite.

Bluejays Go 1-1 in Wrestling Tri

Pierce High’s wrestlers took on Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic in a triangular held at Norfolk on Thursday, January 18. The Bluejays were victorious over the Knights but fell to the Braves.

The Jays faced Battle Creek in their first dual and lost 21-49. Match winners for the Jays were Cody Yawn with a pin at 138, Ryder Fuchs with a pin at 195, and Dylan Kuehler by decision 7-2 at 220.

In their dual with Norfolk Catholic, the Jays won 42-36. Winning matches for the Jays were Nelson Emerson with a pin at 152 and Jeremiah Kruntorad with a pin at 120. The dual had very few matches--with Norfolk Catholic open at 106, 132, 145, 195, and 220--and the Jays were able to tally more team points than the Knights for a win.

The wrestlers were in action again on Saturday, January 20, for the Aurora Dual Tournament and Tuesday, January 23, for a dual with West Point-Beemer, and they will compete again Saturday, January 27, in the Boone Central Invitational.
