Bluejay Wrestling

Wrestlers Finish 3rd at Osmond

 

The Bluejay wrestlers placed 3rd as a team at the Osmond Invitational on Saturday, December 16, with 187 team points behind Crofton-Bloomfield with 197.5 team points and Norfolk Reserves with 204 team points.

Individually, there were three Bluejay champions: Jeremiah Kruntorad at 126, Cody Yawn at 138, and Ryder Fuchs at 195.

Kruntorad defeated Kevin Marquez of Crofton-Bloomfield by major decision, pinned RJ Wilmes of Creighton, and pinned Charlie Lopez of Wakefield.

Yawn won all his matches by pin, defeating Daisy Jimenez of Norfolk Reserves, Caleb Kuhn of Norfolk Reserves, and Reece McFarland of Crofton-Bloomfield.

Fuchs won his first three matches by pin, beating Noah Lamprecht of Wakefield, Dakota Crosley of Niobrara-Verdigre, and Calvin Dather of Crofton-Bloomfield. In the 1st-place match, Fuchs majored Levi Stacken of Creighton 12-3.

Also medaling for the Bluejays were Devin Graae, Mason Sedlacek, and Nelson Emerson, who all placed 2nd in their brackets. At 106, Graae was pinned by Cory Armstrong Jr. of Norfolk Reserves in both round 1 and 2. At 113, Sedlacek started the day off with a defeat by Toby Ives of Niobrara-Verdigre but rallied to win his next two matches by pin over Nathan Skillings of Crofton-Bloomfield and Sammy Roldan of Norfolk Reserves. At 145, Emerson lost his first match to Ben Chase of Wakefield but won his next three over Cullen Cook of Ponca by pin, Bode Wortman of Creighton by pin, and Trey Sucha of Niobrara-Verdigre by forfeit. He fell in the 1st-place match to Derek Wortman of Creighton.

Placing 3rd was Brett Tinker at 152. Tinker pinned Hunter Hegge of Crofton-Bloomfield in his first match, lost by decision to Colton Krusemark of Ponca in his second match, and pinned Jarrin Sage of Crofton-Bloomfield in the 3rd-place match.

Dylan Kuehler and Sam Rosno both finished 4th in their brackets. At 220, Kuehler lost to Julio Sanchez of Wakefield, Lane Reuter of Norfolk Reserves, and Jared Hornback of Crofton-Bloomfield. At 285, Rosno pinned Ben McDuffee of Ponca in his first match and beat Zach Sims of Lutheran High Northeast in sudden victory in his second match. He then lost to Brody Vrooman of Creighton, Jake Jensen of Norfolk Reserves, and Nick Sazama of Norfolk Reserves.

Placing 6th for the Jays were Jayden Sporleder at 120, Travis Jensen at 160, and Cole Cheney at 195. Sporleder lost to Jeremiah Chase of Wakefield, Cesar Sandoval of Wakefield, Tyson Sauser of Crofton-Bloomfield, Cody Hanvey of Creighton, and Makario Leistritz Sanchez of Norfolk Reserves. Jensen lost to Clayton Christensen of Wakefield, Laikon Ames of Norfolk Reserves, and JD Kuhlman of Creighton. Cheney fell to Levi Stacken of Creighton, Michael Hegge of Ponca, and Dakota Crosley of Niobrara-Verdigre.

Also representing the Jays were Ethan Dohmen at 126, Zane Gleason at 145, and Jaden Jones at 152. Dohmen lost to Charlie Lopez of Wakefield, Keaton Elsberry of Norfolk Reserves, and Alexander Heiman of Osmond. Gleason lost to Derek Wortman of Creighton and Preston Hausmann of Norfolk Reserves. He won his next match over Jacob Anderson of Wakefield. In his last two matches, Gleason fell to Jordan Cardone Kientz of Norfolk Reserves and Bode Wortman of Creighton. Jones lost to Jarrin Sage of Crofton-Bloomfield, Mitchell Fischer of Wakefield, and Isaac Verzani of Wakefield.

The Jays’ next tournament will be the Pierce Invite on Saturday, December 30.


JH Wrestlers Host Triangular

To close out their 2017 season, the Pierce junior high wrestling team hosted a triangular at Pierce against Creighton and Plainview on Tuesday, December 12. There were no team points kept nor individual placements.

Individual results were as follows: Colton Fritz fell to Easton Pavlik of Creighton with a score 4-7 in his first match. During his second match, Fritz pinned Matthew Johnson of Creighton.  In his third match, Fritz was pinned by Will Gunning. Brock Bolling had a dominant win over Kyler Mosel from Plainview with a score of 18-1 in his only match of the day. Jayce Jacobs fell to Caleb Smith from Creighton by pin in his first match. During his second match, Jacobs was pinned by Seth Tunender of Plainview, and in his final match of the day, he fell to Morgan Guevara by a pin. Blake Bolling pinned Morgan Guevara from Plainview in his first match. During his second match, he lost to Tanner Frahm. Michael Kruntorad fell to Will Gunning with a score of 8-18 in his first match. Kruntorad also fell to Easton Pavlik of Creighton with a score of 3-4. Isaiah Adams, in his only match of the day, beat Kyler Mosel of Plainview with a score of  6-1. Cameron Armitage beat Logan Jacobson with a score of 9-3 in his only match. Karter Wolfe lost to Shane Farnik of Creighton with a score of 2-8. Jayden Coulter beat Kyler Mosel of Plainview with a score of 8-0.

Overall, the Bluejays finished with 6 wins and 9 losses in the dual.

Coach Gary Shada said, “For the most part, we wrestled well. There were a few matches I think we could have prepared better for before we stepped on the mat.”

This was the last junior high wrestling meet for the season.
