RoboJays Compete in Last Competition

The robotics team participated in their last competition at Northeast Community College on Thursday, November 30, where the team Better Vexpectations team got 5th out of 7, and the team Me Me Strong Bot got 6th.

Members of Me Me Strong Bot were Cody Fuchs, Alexander Kesting, Matthew Williams, and Trevor Zellmer. The second team, Better Vexpectations, included Emilia Goetsch, Kyler Peters, and Mark Venteicher.

“In the Zone” is the name of the VEX Robotics competition for 2017-18. Robots are built using VEX materials, and the beginning size requirement of the bots is 18 x 18 x 18 inches, which can be expanded once the competition actually begins. Competition plays out on a 12 foot x 12 foot mat that contains 80 cones scattered throughout. The competitors’ robots must stack on low and high goals and move goals to scored zones.

When the competition first began, there were two practice rounds in which every team got ahold of their bots and made sure they worked the way they wanted them to work. After the practice rounds, they had qualifying matches where they competed against other teams’ bots. The bots’ tasks included  From there, the top four teams’ bots advanced to the finals round. With neither Pierce team qualifying for finals, they finished in 5th (Better Vexpectations) and 6th (Me Me Strong Bot).

Senior robotics team member Trevor Zellmer said, “I think overall it was a very fun last meet for our team.”

This was the last robotics competition of this season.
