JH Band Performs Concert at Home and Performs at Lincoln
by Angelica Volquardsen
The Pierce junior high band performed for the public on Friday, November 17, at the Pierce High gymnasium at 7 p.m. in preparation for their playing in Lincoln on Saturday, November 18.
For both performances, the band played the songs “Pandora,” “The Adventure Begins,”
Aztlan,” “Castles and Dragons,” “Darklands March,” and “Eclipse.”
For their Lincoln performance, the band played at the Lied Center. This was a reading session for middle school band directors across the state and was part of the Nebraska Music Educator Association's convention. Pierce’s junior high band performed live for band directors across the state. The songs were chosen by four different conductors, who each chose one to two songs that work well for their bands, and our band demonstrated the songs for them. The band went and learned six songs in six weeks. They had to do extra rehearsals after school and during study hall. They also had Skype sessions, and some directors came to Pierce and rehearsed with them, as well. They performed in the Husker Marching Band rehearsal room, which is also next door to where the high school All-State band was rehearsing.
Band director Michael Sindt said, “The students went above and beyond to perform the six pieces to a very appreciative and knowledgeable audience.”
