Annual Veterans’ Day Program Held at PHS

by Rhayna Waldner

The Veterans Day Program was held on Monday, November 13, in the Pierce High School gym.

To begin the program, Vicar Jesse Baker from Zion Lutheran Church started things off with an invocation. After this, Rick Sirek gave a warm welcome to all those who were there. At the conclusion of Sirek’s speech, the boys’ choir ensemble sang the National Anthem. When the boys were done singing, they were joined by the rest of the choir to sing “For The Glory,” directed by Terri Haselhorst.

The next speakers in the program were Annie Johnson and Ian Fisher. Johnson and Fisher were selected to go to Lincoln for Girls and Boys State this summer and were sponsored by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. They thanked these groups for the opportunity and talked about what experiences they had while they were there and things that they had learned from the week. After Johnson and Fisher were done giving their speeches, Rick Wimer, the main speaker, gave the Veterans Day Address. He gave a heartfelt message about veterans’ experiences through speaking of his son Ross Wimer’s time in the Marines.

The Parade of Flags was after Wimer’s speech. These were carried by the Legion baseball players. Sirek next did a roll call of departed veterans. After those veterans were named, Grace Spieker and Abbey Sedlacek performed “Taps,” which led into the senior high band playing “Service Songs.” Attendees to the program were encouraged to stand up if they or their family members had served as the songs for the Navy, Marines, Army, and Air Force were played. For the final portion of the program, Vicar Jesse Baker ended with a prayer, and the colors were retired.
