Jays Fall in OT to Cadets

In an overtime battle, the Bluejay football team faced the West Point-Beemer Cadets on the road, but fell by a score of 28-35.

The Cadets were the first on the scoreboard, putting up two touchdowns and PATs to take an early lead on the Jays. Before the end of the quarter, Collin Tinker managed to score on a 13-yard pass from Dalton Freeman. With Devan Roth scoring the point after, the Jays were down 7-14 after one.

Not able to score in the second quarter, the Jays fell further behind as the Cadets scored again on a 12-yard run and made the extra point.

The Jays weren’t quitting, however, and scored after halftime on a three-yard run by Ashton Wragge. C. Tinker also had another touchdown, as he scored on a 49-yard run. The Jays also capitalized on the two-point conversion with a pass from Freeman to Dysen Roth. With Pierce’s defense holding strong against the Cadets, the Jays tied the game at 21 after three.

In the fourth quarter, the Jays took the lead as C. Tinker scored on a 12-yard run and Devan Roth made the point after. The Cadets responded with a touchdown and PAT of their own to tie the game at 35 and send it into overtime.

C. Tinker led the Jays in rushing yards with 169, and Freeman had 67 yards passing. Devan Roth had 29 receiving yards, and Carson Oestreich had 31 kickoff return yards. Brett Tinker had 19 tackles, and Jakob Meier had 14 with one sack.

The Cadets managed to score on their possession, and although the Jays came within feet of the end zone, they were unable to score, and the game ended with West Point-Beemer on top.

The Jays will face Madison next as they host them on Friday, October 20, at 7.
