Golfers Qualify for State

Golfers Qualify for State

The Pierce High girls’ golf team competed at the district meet held in Hartington on Monday, October 2. Placing 3rd as a team with 421, the girls qualified for the state golf meet in North Platte.

Individually for the Lady Jays, Sydney Erickson placed 5th with a 96, and Samantha Svendsen shot a 102 to place 13th. Amber Albrecht placed 20th with a 109, Paige Johnson shot a 114 to place 26th, and Haley Dohmen placed 32nd with a 123.

The state meet was held in North Platte on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, October 9 and 10.

“They didn’t golf as well as they had been, but they were able to pull it off and get 3rd and qualify for state,” coach Melinda Stelling said. “That was one of their goals, and they accomplished it. Hopefully we can get some personal bests a state and come home with a trophy.”


Golfers Take Mid-State Championship

The Pierce girls’ golf team competed in the Mid-State Conference tournament on their own home course on Thursday, September 28. After a day full of golfing, the team came out team champions with a total score of 391.

Individually, Sydney Erickson was the Mid-States champion. She golfed an 87 to earn her crown. Amber Albrecht placed 9th with a 97, and Samantha Svendsen placed 13 with a 99. Paige Johnson shot a 108 to placed her 16th, and Hayley Dohmen placed 23 with a 115.

The girls golfers’ next meet was the district meet held at Hartington on Monday, October 2, for a chance at state.


Girls Golf Wins HCC Triangular

The girls’ golf team played in a triangular against Hartington CC and Wayne on Tuesday, September, 27, at Hartington and ended up with the lowest team score, winning the meet.

As a whole, the team shot a 202. Sydney Erickson came home with 3rd place getting a 46. Samantha Svendsen shot a 49 and ended up in 4th place. Amber Albrecht got 5th place with a 51. Paige Johnson tied with two other girls from Wayne at 6th place shooting a 56. Haley Dohmen ended with a 59, putting her in 8th place. Freshman Rebecca Albrecht got 14th place shooting a 76.

Coach Melinda Stelling said, “The team performed well. It was nice to see them make improvements from the last time they played that course a week earlier. Our strength is the fact that all of the girls have contributed to the team score at one time or another.”

The girls competed next at Mid-States on September 30, and again for districts on October 2 for a shot at the state meet, which will be held October 9.
