On Tuesday, October 18th, eleven Pierce FFA members left for Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the 2016 National FFA Convention. After the 15-hour overnight charter bus ride, they attended the Wednesday evening opening ceremony with all the other states and keynote speaker Diana Nyad. Nyad talked about how she swam from Cuba to Florida when she was 60 years old. The swim was hard because she couldn’t touch the boat that was beside her. Nyad’s message was to not to give up on your dreams because on her fifth try she made it to Florida from Cuba. Devon Unseld said, “Her speech was very inspiring.”
On one of the four days of the convention, the members toured the Indianapolis 500 Speedway. They also visited a horse track near Indianapolis. During the days of the convention, the members had free time to explore the career expo. The expo was a great learning experience. The night sessions that the members attended were at Pacer Stadium.
On the final day, Saturday, October 22, the members attended the final session at Colt Stadium. “It was an enjoyable learning experience,” said Tyler Unseld.
