Pierce FFA Scores Blue at Dairy Judging

Six Pierce High FFA members, together with advisor Mr. Henry Goeden, attended the district dairy judging contest at the Cedar County Fairgrounds in Hartington on Tuesday, September 20. Eleven schools and about two hundred students participated in the contest. The Pierce group competed as a senior team and scored a blue ribbon, with senior Quentin Anderson scoring an individual blue ribbon.

Besides Anderson, Pierce’s students were Kenyon Polt, Tyler Bolling, Garret Kroupa, Devon Unseld, and Dalton Kumm. They had practiced for the contest before and after school with Goeden. At the contest they judged four classes of live dairy animals, and took a written test that focused on facts relevant to the dairy industry. Anderson placed eighth as an individual, the team placed eighth, and freshman Garret Kroupa, competing on the senior level, placed at number 42.

Mr. Goeden said the contest went very smoothly, and that Pierce’s students enjoyed it and were able to learn from the experience. Anderson has participated in the contest for several years and “was a good leader for the team,” according to Goeden.

Anderson said that Mr. Goeden prepared the students well.
