Cheerleaders Third at State
The Pierce High state cheerleading team participated in the Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships in Grand Island this past Saturday, February 18. They competed in the non-building/non-tumbling cheer division and the sideline cheer division. Pierce’s team placed third in the non-building/non-tumbling division.
To be a part of the team was optional, but tryouts in November led to the selection of ten girls. These girls made the state team: Katie Lockee, Amy Venteicher, Ashton Johnson, Morgan Hoferer, Robyn Werner, Katie Atkins, MaKayla Douglass, Ali Johnson, London Sindelar, and Maddie Jenkins.
Starting in November to prepare for this state competition, these girls practiced once a week at 6 a.m., and as the event approached, they increased their practices to twice a week. Their hard worked paid off as they earned the third-place award.
Once judge said, “Good job at getting the crowd involved in your cheer!” Overall, the cheerleaders received numerous compliments as well as helpful advice for next year.
