Students Take ACT Test
Northeast Community College hosted the ACT test on Saturday, February 11. Approximately 25 Pierce juniors and seniors took the test that day. They had prepared for the test by taking the John Baylor ACT Test Prep Course at Pierce High.
There are 12 ACT practice sessions throughout the year at Pierce, and at the end of the year students will have taken three practice ACT tests.
The ACT tests four subjects: English, math, reading, and science. There are 75 English questions, 60 math questions, 40 reading questions, and 40-science questions.
When Pierce’s students took the December ACT test, their average score was 23.5, and the national average is a 21. Mrs. Fran Pytleski said, “The students were well prepared, and their scores are a reflection of that.”
Overall the students did well on the ACT test. And they learned a lot through the John Baylor ACT Prep course. Laurel Bailey said the test on Saturday was “exhausting,” and Myckaila Leach said it was “not a fun way to spend a Saturday,” but colleges require an ACT or SAT score for students who enter academic programs, and they give scholarships to students who achieve high scores. Therefore, some students take the test more than once. Leach said she hopes to get a score in the high 20’s or low 30’s. The highest score possible is a 36.
