Warbirds Compete at Districts

Aaron Hanlin receives his second place medal.

Hanlin Advances To State

Aaron Hanlin qualified for the state wrestling tournament as he competed in the B-3 district tournament in York on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11 along with the rest of the Pierce Warbirds wrestling team.

Hanlin at 170 placed second for the Warbirds, guaranteeing him a spot in the state tournament. Wrestling at 170, he received a bye in the first round, pinned his opponent in the quarterfinals, won by decision in the semifinals, but lost by decision against his opponent in the championship match.

Johnnie Huff, wrestling at 138, received a bye in round one but lost by pin in the quarterfinals. In consolation round two, Huff won by pinning his opponent from Columbus Lakeview but then lost by decision in the consolation round three.

Colby Huff, wrestling at 160, also received a bye in round one and lost by pin in the quarterfinals. In consolation round two, he pinned his opponent from Boone Central, making it to round three. In the third consolation round, Huff lost by pin.

Evan Harrod competes for Pierce.

Evan Harrod, wrestling at 220, won by major decision in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals Harrod lost by pin to an opponent from Adams Central. In the consolation semifinals round, Harrod lost by major decision.

Aaron Hanlin started out the tournament with a goal of making it to state. When he found out he had qualified, he was “relieved but tired from the long day”, he said. To prepare for state, Hanlin said he’s going to “eat extra Wheaties.”

Hanlin will be competing in the state tournament February 16 to February 18 at the new CenturyLink Center in Omaha, formerly the Qwest Center.
