Pierce Speakers Dominate Boone Central Meet

The Pierce High speech team took first place in both varsity and novice divisions in their third meet of the year at Albion-Boone Central on Saturday, January 21. The meet consisted of 3 rounds for each event and no finals round.

In the novice division, MaKayla Douglass placed second in both Serious Prose and Poetry Interpretation. Also placing second was Shannah Unseld in Persuasive Speaking. Placing third were London Sindelar in Serious Prose; Sam Halsey in Humorous Prose; Austin Unseld in Extemporaneous Speaking; Abbey Buettgenbach in Poetry Interpretation; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama group of Tristen Sell, London Sindelar, Paige Spieker, Shannah Unseld, and Kristin Arens. Myles Sudbeck placed fourth in Humorous Prose, and Charles Krueger placed fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking. Claudia Flesner placed fifth in Informative Speaking, and partners Charles Krueger and Myles Sudbeck placed fifth in Duet Acting. Placing sixth were Alisha White in Serious Prose and Laurie Venteicher and Shane White in Duet Acting.

In the varsity divison, placing first were Katie Lockee in Serious Prose, Alisha White and Caleb Lohrberg in Duet Acting, Zach Halsey in Humorous Prose, and the Oral Interpretation of Drama trio: Jacob Jones, Micah Bahnfleth, and Zach Halsey. Placing second were Katie Lockee in Extemporaneous Speaking, Laurie Venteicher in Serious Prose, and Jacob Jones and Micah Bahnfleth in Duet Acting. Micah Bahnfleth placed third in Humorous Prose. Molly Harris and Briton Rodenborg placed fourth in Duet Acting. Jacob Jones placed fourth in Entertainment.

In Oral Interpretation of Drama, Marcus Blunck, Mason Rohrich, and Caleb Lohrberg placed fifth; and Molly Harris, Briton Rodenborg, Shane White, Abbey Buettengenbach, and Blake Douglass placed sixth. Also placing sixth were Laurel Bailey in Serious Prose and Amy Fleer in Humorous Prose.

Myles Sudbeck said, “I enjoyed the meet. There was a lot of good competition and that made me try my hardest to do my best.”

The speech team will compete in the Stanton Speech Invite this Saturday, January 28, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
