Volleyball Opens Season
Five returning letter winners will lead the 2010 Lady Jays volleyball team as they begin their season this Thursday, September 2 in a varsity and JV triangular at home with Norfolk Catholic and Schuyler.
Seventeen girls are out for volleyball this year. Returning letter winners are sophomore Rachel Wiedenfeld and juniors Ellie Pytleski, Payton Wragge, Timaree Reed and Morgan Buckendahl.
Height and the youth of the girls are the biggest strengths this year. But since there is so much youth on the team, they need to work on a lot of things because there is not enough varsity experience, Coach Rick Adams said. He added, “The season will be interesting this year to see how we compete and improve each week.” Practices have been going very well; the girls are working very hard and improving.
In the games this Thursday, both the varsity and the reserves will begin play at 5:30 p.m., with varsity at the high school and JV at the downtown auditorium. The teams will play Schuyler first, then will play Norfolk Catholic.
