24BLUE

One-to-One Laptop Initiative Documents

by Phyllis Wood, Technology Coordinator

October 21, 2008

In order to prepare our students for their future in the twenty-first century, the administration, faculty and staff of Pierce Public Schools believes students benefit from having laptop computers as tools to aid in their education.

During the 2007-2008 school year a technology committee researched this idea at great length.  Seminars and workshops were attended.  Visits were made to schools with laptops for every student.  Meetings were held with faculty.  Literature was researched.  A proposal was prepared and the Board of Education passed a motion to proceed with the acquisition of 400 Macbooks in May of 2008.  Included in the order were three servers, Macbooks for all students in grades 7-12 and faculty, an additional mobile cart of 25 machines at the elementary school and professional development for faculty.

The one-to-one laptop program was named 24BLUE.  24 for twenty-four hours a day, Better Learning, Unlimited Education.

The following documents were prepared by Pierce Public Schools to aid in the organization, distribution, and implementation of the twenty-first century learning initiative in the summer of 2008.  Much of the information was used with permission from other schools implementing a one-to-one laptop program.  Feel free to use what you can.
