Two Outstanding Citizens
By Raegan Theisen
Al and Jacque Collison are two of Pierce High’s Teammates mentors who have been mentoring for 21 years, since Pierce started the Teammates program.
The Collison’s have been married for an outstanding 52 years. J. Collison was born and raised in good ol’ Pierce, NE. For 48 years of their marriage, the two have been living in Pierce together.
The Collison’s have been members of the mentoring program since it started at Pierce. They each mentor once a week during the school year. Their time mentoring consists of card games, lunch, and just listening to the kids talk. When visiting with the teammate, they try to find areas to help them without prying into their lives.
A. Collison says, “My favorite part about mentoring is the relationships that I build with the kids.”
Like her husband, J. Collison comments, “Watching the confidence grow within the kids is my favorite thing about mentoring.”
