Sophomores Tackle the Pre-Act
By Autumn Lambrecht
On September 28, the Pierce High sophomore class woke up bright and early to take one of their first big high school tests, the Pre-Act. The Pre-Act takes about three hours, consisting of multiple timed tests and includes: English, math, science, and reading.
Just like the real ACT, the sophomores only get a certain amount of time for each section. The highest score achievable is a 36. Again, preparing the them for the true ACT, the sophomores take the test with pencil and paper, and only get their scheduled breaks.
Pierce High counselor Danielle Goetsch comments, “The Pre-Act is good for a number of reasons. One of the reasons students take the Pre-Act is to help them prepare for the state test and the college entrance exam. The Pre-Act is also good because it provides an interest inventory, and so based on the interest inventory and results of the Pre-Act students are given a list of fields which correlate with their skills and interests.”
Sophomores Scarlett Babl and Talon Balaski add, “We thought that the Pre-Act went well, it was not our favorite thing to take; however, it was not as bad as we expected it to be. We don’t think we got enough time to answer the questions thoroughly, and our breaks were not as long as we would have liked them to be. We thought we weren’t going to be as prepared for it as we were. We think we should have been allowed to eat.”
