Pierce Boys and Girls Cross Country Team Finish Strong

By Addison Sporleder

The Pierce cross country boys and girls traveled to Stanton to compete in the annual Stanton meet on Thursday, September 29. The girls side did not have enough runners to score as a team, but the boys side dominated by coming home as champions.

Alexander Meier, senior runner, commented, “I felt we performed very well as a team, and I’m proud of everyone’s efforts to come home as champions.”

Starting off for the two girls who competed, Zoey Ebmeier claimed first place with a time of 21:22.840. Not far behind was Aylla Weeder in eighth place with a time of 23:30.173.

On the boys side, Ashton Koch finished fourth with a time of 18:19.946. Next up for Pierce was Kyle Abler in 11th place 18:57.453. Coming in 14th place was Elijah Streff with a time of 19:09.301. Close behind him was Nickolas Efta in 18th place with a time of 19:45.341. In 33rd place was Carl Vogt with a time of 20:54.178. Finally, Meier finished 36th with a time of 21:08.777.

Head coach Gary Shada said, “I was pleased with our performance at Stanton; however, we are still searching for that meet where every team member has an improvement on the same day.  We still struggle with being consistent in our races, but that is improving. We continue to put forth our best effort each and every time and in the end that's what matters most.”

The cross country team heads to the Wayne Country Club for the Mid-State Conference cross country meet on Thursday, October 6.
