Lady Jays Pierce Triangular

On Thursday, September 29, the Pierce Lady Jays volleyball team played Dakota Valley and Ponca at Pierce.The Lady Jays played Dakota Valley and won 3-2, then they played Ponca, winning the game 2-0.
In the first game against Dakota Valley, Pierce won their first set 25-17 and the second set Dakota Valley rallied back and the Bluejays lost 25-18. Going into the third set the Lady Jays won 25-19, but lost in the fourth 25-16. Then the last set Pierce played they captured the match with a 15-10 win.
Pierce then went on to play Ponca, and the Lady Jays won their first set 25-20, but lost in the second set 25-22, finally during the last set Pierce got back and won 25-10.
Morgan Moeller, a defensive specialist, said, “We knew going into it that it was going to be a challenge for us, but I am really glad of how we continued to fight even after losing a few sets. Playing eight sets in one night is not easy, but we did a great job working together and finishing strong.”
When the coach of the night, Zach Weber, was asked how the team did in the games against Dakota Valley and Ponca, he said, “Today was a very good day for our team. Dakota Valley serves as aggressively as any team we’ve played, and we handled it extremely well. Defensively, we also made a lot of great plays.”
The Lady Jays will be in O’Neill on Thursday, October 6.
Lady Jays Take Down the Bears

On September 27, the Pierce Lady Jays took on the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears at home, and got the victory in a 3-0 set sweep.
In the first set, the Pierce Lady Jays battled and were able to take the set with a score of 25-16. Coming out stronger in the second set, the Lady Jays dominated the set with a score of 25-13.
Senior libero Morgan Moeller stated, “It was a great night for all three teams. It is always good to get a clean sweep at home, and I am really proud of how well we have bounced back and continued to make steps forward.”
Entering the third set with great energy, the Lady Jays took the set 25-18, and took home the victory against the Bears.
Throughout the night, junior Jaya Wachholtz had 15 kills and three aces. Junior Maggie Painter had nine kills, and sophomore Claudia Riggert had eight kills, four blocks, and two aces.
Head coach Zach Weber comments on the night saying, “We played well. We’re making huge strides in serve and receive, and our attacking numbers have been very good. We need to continue to focus on improving daily.”
The Pierce Lady Jays will be back in action on October 6, at O’Neill High School.
