On Thursday, September 29, the Pierce Lady Jay golf team competed at the Mid-State golf tournament hosted in Crofton and brought home the conference championship.
Pierce competed against Wayne, O’Neill, Norfolk Catholic, Crofton, Boone Central, and Battle Creek.
Melinda Stelling, head coach, remarks, “Overall as a team we came together and competed hard and didn’t let the wind bother them. We did what we needed to do and won.”
During the day, Alena Peters placed first with a score of 45. Ashley Wacker placed fourth with a 46, and Zaylah Pfansteil placed seventh with a 48. Close behind, freshman Rylee Altwine placed eighth with a score of 48, and Keli Shermer placed twelveth with a score of 52.
Talking about the district meet next week, Shermer states, “I have confidence, we have five people who are all able to shoot well, and if one of us doesn’t have a great day, we are there for each other, and we are able to make up for it.”
The Lady Jays will be back in action next week on October 3 at the district meet at Wayne.
