Bluejays Send Eagles Back With a Loss

By Autumn Lambrecht

On September 30, the Pierce Bluejays battled against the O’Neill Eagles, and sent the Eagles back home with a loss, securing another Bluejay win, 54-20.

Starting off the night, junior Keenan Valverde scored the first touchdown and followed with the kick. Benjamin Brahmer put up the second touchdown of the night with another good kick from Valverde. The Eagles were only able to score one touchdown, ending the first quarter 14-6 in favor of the Bluejays.

Taking on the second quarter, the Bluejays had a strong offensive show. Valverde scored another three touchdowns along with two good kicks. Senior Addison Croghan scored a 2-point conversion, along with Brahmer getting another touchdown for the Bluejays. Again the Eagles were able to score only one touchdown with a good 2-point conversion following. The first half ended 42-14, favoring the Bluejays.

Head coach Mark Brahmer adds, “We were pleased with our boys’ performance Friday night. Defensively, we stepped up and got some important stops against O’Neill’s very talented quarterback and receiving corp. Our special teams units continue to play at a high level, and our offensive line played hard throughout.”

Coming back out for the third, the Bluejays shut down the Eagles, not letting them score anything, but Abram Scholting scored the touchdown for the Bluejays bringing up the score 48-14. For the fourth quarter, the Bluejays put up one more touchdown, scored by Gavin Sullivan, and the Eagles scored their final touchdown, ending the night 54-20.

Senior Jayden Coulter comments, “I thought we played okay defensively, but have some things we need to clean up for next week.”

Scholting ended the evening 6 of 7 in passing with 167 yards. Valverde led all rushers with 233 yards.

Senior Jayden Coulter led the team with eight solo tackles. A host of Jays, including Sullivan, Brahmer, Dawson Raabe, Zachary Meier, Luke Endorf, and Wyatt Asmus, all had quarterback sacks.

The Pierce Bluejays next game will be October 7, at Central City High School against Central City.
