Lady Jays Golf Swings for Fourth at Boone Central

By Ella Gaes

On Saturday, September 17, the Pierce girls golf team packed up their clubs and set out for Boone Central to compete at the Albion Country Club.

The team took fourth place overall, and Gary Fuerhoff, assistant golf coach, was relatively pleased with this placement. He remarked, “Overall, the day went really well. They played pretty well for a difficult course. Also, it was the first time a couple of the girls have seen the course and some of the teams we haven't seen before.”

The team shot a total of 399. Pierce’s top medalist of the day, was senior Alena Peters who played a 95 and placed ninth overall. Next, seniors Zaylah Pfanstiel and Keli Shermer both tied for 12th with a score of 99. Freshman Rylee Altwine also tied for 25th and ended with 106. And last but not least, junior Ashley Wacker shot a 112 and placed 38th.

Aside from Pierce and Boone Central, Wayne, Scotus, Lakeview, O’Neill, Fullerton, Battle Creek, West Holt, Clarkson-Leigh, Stanton, and Shelby-Rising City were all in attendance.

On Thursday, September 22, the golf team will travel to the Wayne Country Club starting at 9:00.

Overall, the girls have been working hard both on the practice course and in competition, and there will likely be some good results to be seen.

“To prepare, we are working on chipping and putting which is where the scoring happens,” Fuerhoff remarked.

The Lady Jay golfers are back in action again on Thursday, September 22, at Wayne Country Club.
