Pierce Bluejays Victorious Against Omaha Roncalli

On Friday, September 16, the Pierce Bluejays took on one of their toughest teams yet, Omaha Roncalli Crimson Pride, and secured the victory 57-35. 

Coming into the game strong, the Pierce Bluejays scored two touchdowns, and although no kick or 2-point conversions were scored, the defense held strong against Omaha Roncalli Crimson Prides not letting any points be scored. The Bluejays led with a good start of 12-0.  

Entering the second quarter, Roncalli scored their first three touchdowns, all with good kicks, against the Bluejays while Pierce still fought back and was able to gain two touchdowns both with the extra points. The first half ended 28-21 in favor of the Bluejays.

Senior Grant Snodgrass adds, “I think we did a good job at not putting our heads down and answering back with offense. We will keep adding more and more plays to our offensive and defensive teams to get more practice.”

Back out for the third quarter, the Bluejays dominated with their offense and scored another two touchdowns, along with a 2-point conversion and good kick. Roncalli scored one touchdown followed by a good kick, leaving the third 43-28. 

The fourth quarter again was both offensively and defensively strong for the Bluejays, running in two touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. Omaha Roncalli scored their last touchdown of the night, with the kick being good, ending the game 57-35 with the Pierce Bluejays taking home yet another win.

Head coach Mark Brahmer commented, “I was very proud of how hard our boys played and how well they competed on Friday night. We had to handle quite a bit of adversity, and every time our boys answered the bell. We have to continue to work hard in practice and preparation to play at a high level on Friday nights.”

For stats of the night, Colby Anderson, Kaiden Fritz, and Jayden Coulter led with the most solo tackles, each making four. Keenan Valverde had 202 rushing yards throughout the night against Roncalli. Valverde added three touchdowns,Tristan Kuehler scored two touchdowns, Anderson had one touchdown, Jacksen Wachholtz had one touchdown, Addison Croghan had one touchdown along with a two-point conversion, followed by Benjamin Brahmer with a 2-point conversion. 

The Pierce Bluejays next game will be Friday, September 23, against the Wayne Blue Devils at Wayne State College.
