Lady Jays Volleyball

Pierce Crushes Crofton

On Thursday, September 15, the Pierce High varsity Lady Jays competed against the Crofton Warriors in Crofton, and the Lady Jays won this game 3-1. 

When head coach Zach Weber was asked about the game, he said, “It was a great way to cap off a tough stretch of road games. Any win over a conference opponent is a good one.” 

In the first set, both teams battled hard but the Lady Jays came out on top 25-17. 

The second set was a thriller that ended with Crofton winning the set 25-22. In the third set, the Lady Jays fired up and won the set 25-13.

In the fourth and final set, the Lady Jays defeated the Warriors 25-20.

Leading the team in digs in this game was senior Morgan Moeller with 33, following her was Jaya Wachholtz with 23. 

Attacking wise, the team leader for kills was Wachholtz with 15, and hot on her heels was Maggie Painter with 14 kills. These kills were assisted mainly by Brielle Unseld who had 37 assists. Unseld also broke the school record for assists, making her the all-time leader with 2509. 

The Lady Jays had 10 ace serves, and Moeller had the majority of them with four. You can catch the Lady Jays compete again Thursday, September 22, against Lutheran High Northeast in Pierce. 


Bluejays Break Down the Bravettes

On Tuesday, September 13, the Pierce Lady Jays took on the Battle Creek Bravettes on the Battle Creek home court and took home the win in four sets.

Taking on the first set, the Lady Jays came out strong and took down the Bravettes with a score of 25-17. Entering the second set, the Lady Jays fell short to the Bravettes, with only being able to score 18, losing the set 25-18. 

Senior Morgan Moeller comments, “We had our ups and downs, but I am proud that we continued to battle and fight to finish out the game!! We need to continue to make steps forward and improve each day.” 

Coming back for a strong third set, the Pierce Lady Jays hit it hard and cleared the set against the Bravettes, and the Lady Jays senior Moeller served 12 consecutive serves against the Bravettes, adding to the set win, 25-10.The fourth set was another battle between the Lady Jays and Bravettes, with a game finish of 25-20, in favor of the Lady Jays. 

Throughout the night, Moeller led the team in serves with 22 overall with three of them being aces. Sophomore Skylar Scholting had three ace serves as well. 

Claudia Riggert had 19 kills, followed by Jaya Wachholtz and Maggie Painter each contributed 12 kills. Moeller also had 28 digs to add to the books. 

Head coach Zach Weber adds, “Any win against a conference opponent is a great win. It definitely was not pretty at times, but I am proud of how we responded. Our leadership from the upperclassmen is excellent, and we executed well enough to win.” 

The Lady Jays next game will be Thursday, September 22, against Lutheran High Northeast at Lutheran High Northeast.
