Varsity Lady Jays Compete in State Tournament

by Raegan Theisen

Pierce High varsity volleyball Lady Jays went up against the Kearney Catholic Stars on Wednesday, November 3, at Lincoln, and the Lady Jays fell to the Stars 3-0.

Head Coach Zach Weber was very pleased with the girls’ season saying, “I’m very proud of what this group accomplished this season. Obviously, we would've liked to have ended on a stronger note, but one game does not define our season or our team. I’m grateful to have worked with this senior group, and I know their impact set the foundation for success in the years to come.”

In the first set, both teams battled hard but the Stars came out on top 25-19.

The second set was another battle for the Lady Jays, and they fell to Kearney 25-16.

In the third and final set, the Lady Jays could not keep up with the Stars and lost 25-17.

Sophomore Jaya Wachholtz led the team in kills with seven, following close behind her was Maggie Painter with five, and Elly Piper had four. Also adding to the team’s kills, Jozy Piper and Kennedy Warneke each got three. Brielle Unseld also killed two balls.

Unseld blocked two balls, Painter also blocked a ball.

For serving, Moeller had one ace.

Moeller dug up 19 balls, followed by Painter and Unseld each with eight digs. Warneke also dug six balls and Knox with one.

“I am very proud of our season and what we accomplished. We built a foundation for Pierce volleyball and we showed that we can accomplish anything,” said junior libero Morgan Moeller.
