Pierce Competes at Wisner-Pilger Meet

On Saturday, April 10, the freshmen and sophomores of the Pierce High track team, along with a few upperclassmen, traveled to Wisner-Pilger High School to compete for the first freshman/sophomore meet of the year. 

Sophomore Ciara Garcia states, “I think we did very well this meet. It was fun to watch the JV team compete. If we continue to work hard in practice, it will show in our results as it has in the past. I’m proud of us for competing well so far this season.”

Starting off with the boys, in the 100-meter dash, Evan Willits finished second with a time of 11.2. In the JV run Matt Christensen placed first with a time 11.5. Not far behind Karter Wolfe placed third with a time of 11.9. 

Next, in the 200-meter dash, Evan Willits placed third with a 24.45. 

In the 110-meter hurdles, Addison Croghan placed fourth with a time of 17.10. 

In the JV division Coleton Cooper got first with a time of 24.83. Right behind him was Matt Christensen in second with a time of 25.23, and in fourth place was Caleb Newman with a time of 26.88. 

In the 400-meter dash JV runner Coleton Cooper received second with a 55.00. 

The boys 4x100 meter relay team of Evan Willits, Gavin Sullivan, Max Cooper, and Deon Watts, got second with a time of 45.99. The JV 4x100 team, Karter Wolfe, Coleton Cooper, Matt Christensen, and Kaden Froehlich, received first with a time of 47.60. 

In the 4x400, the team consisting of Jayden Coulter, Luke Endorf, Max Cooper, and Colby Anderson, placed fifth with a 3:59.27. The JV 4x400 team, Karter Wolfe, Coleton Cooper, Kaden Froehlich, and Caleb Newman, received second place with a time 4:00.55. 

Moving toward the long distance with the 800-meter run, Gavin Geneski placed third with a time of 2:15.17. In the 800-meter run JV division Blake Bolling received sixth place with a time of 2:25.64.

In the boys high jump, Addison Croghan and Evan Willits tied with a 5-04. 

In boys long jump, Gavin Sullivan was given the placing of third with a jump of 19-00.25. In JV Karter Wolfe received fourth place with a jump of 17-01. 

Luke Endorf received second place in triple jump with a jump of 39-00.75. In JV boys triple jump, Korvin Fritz received fourth place with a jump of 34-02.25. 

Miles Garcia took home silver in pole-vaulting, receiving second place with a vault of 12.00. JV participant Jackson Zimmerman received third place with a jump 9-06.

Competing in discus, Colton Fritz got fifth place with a throw of 116-03.

Head coach Tim Waldner remarked, “Our young kids had a great day in showing what they can do. They were able to expand their events against varsity competition and performed well.

Moving to the girls, 4x400 relay, received first place. The team consisted of Raegan Theisen, Maggie Painter, Callie Arnold, and Payten Simmons with a final time of 4:22.96.

Moving girls pole vault, Ciara Garcia received fifth place with a jump of 6-06. In girls JV shot put Kenna Sedlacek placed second with a throw of 29-07.

The next meet for the JV team will be on Thursday, April 15, at O’Neill.
