Wrestling Travels to Northwest Dual Tournament

The Pierce wrestlers traveled to compete in the Northwest Dual Tournament in Grand Island. They dualed against multiple teams including Elkhorn North, Aquinas Catholic, Central City, Hastings, and Ogallala. 

Starting off against Elkhorn North, Pierce won overall 64-15. Isaiah Adams (120) pinned Grey Jarzynka. At 126, Brock Bolling pinned Aidan Clarys in a quick match. Blake Bolling gained his pin over John Radicia at 132. Jayden Coulter, at 138, won his match by pin over Tyler Mencke. At 145, Aiden Gnat took the win by pin over Keller Cox. Ashton Schweitzer (152) won by fall over Landon Porter. At 160, Michael Kruntorad gained his victory in a quick :48 over Donald McDougald. Also winning in a quick match of :32 was Zander Schweitzer over Cole Ovens in the 170. Weighing in at 182 and 195, respectively, were Parker Sackville and Colton Fritz who won their matches due to an open weight class from the opposing team. At 220, Nick Erickson lost by a 3-2 decision to Jadon Webster. Travis Jensen (285) lost his battle by fall to Zach Protaskey. At 106, Zakary Abler lost by fall to Tyler Japp. Finishing off the dual against Elkhorn North was Ethan Dohmen with a win over Carter Reichenberg by major decision of 11-1. 

Senior Ethan Dohmen said, “As a team we wrestled tough, and we beat some good opponents overall.”

Aquinas Catholic of David City was Pierce’s only dual loss of the day with 44-21 being the final score. Starting at 132 was Blake Bolling against Noah Scott where he lost by a 16-5 major decision. Coulter, at 138, pinned Colin Hough in just under a minute. Weighing in at 145, Zach Meier lost by tech fall 15-0 to Jacob Moravec. A. Schweitzer, at 152, lost by decision 2-1 to Christopher Nickolite. At 160, Kruntorad won by decision 11-8 over Nolan Eller. Winning by pin at 170 was Z. Schweitzer over Marcus Eickmeier. Sackville (182) lost by fall to Michael Andel. Ren Gleason (195) lost to Reilly Miller by fall. At 220, Erickson lost by decision 7-0 to Paul Buresh. Weighing in at 106, Abler lost by fall to Grady Romshek. In 113, Dohmen lost by a 16-1 tech fall to Jakob Kavan. At 126, Isaiah Adams won by a 3-0 decision to Zander Kavan. To finish off the dual against Aquinas Catholic was Br. Bolling (126) who won by decision 8-4 over Zach Zitek. 

Pierce’s next dual was against Central City, and the Bluejays won with a score of 42-33. Starting at 113 was Dohmen, where he lost his battle by fall against Cole Kunz. Weighing in at 120, Adams lost by decision 7-1 to Tristan Burbach. Brothers Brock and Blake Bolling, weighing 126 and 132 respectively, both pinned their opponents Brandon Fye and Johnny Scarlett. At 138, Meier lost by fall to Dyson Kunz. Coulter, at 145, won by an 11-6 decision over Kane VonBonn. Weighing in at 152, A. Schweitzer won in a tight match by an 8-7 decision over Tanner Scheiderheinz. At 160, Kruntorad pinned Bryce Sutton. Sackville, wrestling at 170, lost by fall to Sam Moore. Z. Schweitzer (182) won by pin in battle against Jaramie Elton. Fritz, at 195, wrestled Levi Villa where Fritz won by pin. Wrestling weight 220 was open for the opposing team, which means there was a win for Pierce and for Erickson. At 285, Jensen lost by fall to Gunner Bailey. To end this dual for Pierce was Abler with a fall against Drew Garfield. 

The Bluejays fourth dual of the day was against Hastings, and they won with a score of 40-33. Starting off this dual was Abler (106) where he lost by fall to Cameron Brumbaugh. At 113, Dohmen lost to a fall by Jaden Meyer. In the 120 weight class, Adams lost in a tiebreaker 8-6 against Markus Miller. Br. Bolling, at 126, won over Elijah Johnson by major decision 8-0. Bl. Bolling (132) won by pin in under a minute to Trey Clark. At 145, Gnat lost by fall to Landon Weidner. Weighing in at 152, A. Schweitzer won by fall in a long battle against Jett Samuelson. Kruntorad (160) won in a quick :25 over Brayden Lockling. At 170, Sackville pinned Conner Wademan. Wrestling at 182, Z. Schweitzer won by a 7-1 decision over Jackson Phelps. Fritz (195) lost to Jacob Lopez by fall. At 220, Gleason lost by fall to Blake Davis. Erickson finished off this dual with a pin over Blaine Hamik. 

The last dual of the day for the Bluejays was a close win by Pierce, 34-30 over Ogallala. Starting this dual off was Br. Bolling (126) who won by an 11-0 major decision over Cole Stokey. At 132, Bl. Bolling won by fall over Max Mueller. Coulter (138) won by fall over Merritt Skinner. Weighing at 145, Meier lost by decision 4-0 to Gage Stokey. At 152, A. Schweitzer lost to Cameron Zink by decision 8-3. Kruntorad (160) pinned Blake Wyatt. Z. Schweitzer (170) pinned Trae Skiles. At 182, Sackville lost by fall to Landon Holecheck. Fritz (195) lost by an 8-1 decision to Bo Edmond. Gleason, at 220, lost by a 6-2 decision to Colton Donason. Erickson (285) pinned Colin Hillis in :50. Abler (106) lost by fall to Jorge Carizales. At 113, Dohmen lost by a 4-1 decision to Pedro Carizales. Finishing the last dual of the day was Adams (113) who lost by decision 5-3 to Logan Stephens. 

Junior Br. Bolling commented, “I feel as a team we did really well and got some very good wins. We need to keep improving and working hard until February.”

The Bluejays will next take the mat on Saturday, January 23, at Plattsmouth.
