Lady Jays Compete Against the Flyers

On Thursday, January 14, the Pierce Lady Jays hosted the Humphrey St. Francis Flyers basketball team, but fell to the Lady Flyers 53-48. 

To start off the game, Pierce scored seven points, letting the Lady Flyers score 17.

In the second quarter, the Lady Jays came back strong, scoring 17 points and held the Flyers to 10 points. The score going into halftime was 24-17 with the Lady Jays trailing. 

After the break, the Lady Jays scored 12 points, but let the Flyers score 14, so the score ended 38-29 in favor of Humphrey St. Francis.

In the final quarter of the game, the Jays put up 12 points, also letting the Flyers score 12 points. The final score of the game was 48-53 with a Humphrey win. 

Leading scorer of the game for both teams was senior Kenzie Moeller with 22 points. 

Coach Darren Sindelar said this about the game, “I thought the girls competed at a high level the whole night. Since the season began, I feel like we have made good progress on both offense and defense. Tonight showed that we have the ability to play with quality teams.  As we move forward, we need to continue to pay attention to details.  Some of their points came because of our own mistakes.” 

The Lady Jays next game will be Tuesday, January 19, at Norfolk Catholic High School. 


Lady Jays Take Victory Over Vikings

On Tuesday, January 12, the Pierce Lady Jays hosted the Columbus Lakeview Vikings, coming away with a solid 39-21 victory. 

The girls started out hot in the first quarter and scored 15 points, only allowing the Vikings to score three. 

Not letting down in the second quarter, the Jays scored 12 points, still holding the Vikings to three points going into halftime with a 27-6 score. 

After the 10 minute halftime, the Lady Jays put up eight points, allowing the Vikings to score 12, but the Lady Jays still held a 35-18 lead. 

In the final quarter of the game, the Lady Jays scored four points and let the Vikings score three points. The final score of the game was 39-21 with a Pierce win. 

Senior Kenzie Moeller commented on the win saying, “I thought we played good defense and set the pace of the game to where we were transitioning and also getting good stops on the defensive end. Now we just have to continue improving and working hard everyday.”

The Lady Jays will play on Thursday, January 21, against Wynot at Pierce High School..
