Lady Jays Prevail Against Wayne Blue Devils

On Friday, January 8, the Pierce Lady Jays traveled to Wayne and fought their way to victory in a game against the Blue Devils, with an ultimate score of 43-30.

During the first quarter of the game, the Lady Jays secured 14 points, while the Lady Blue Devils trailed behind with eight points. Following in the second quarter, the Lady Jays gained another nine points and permitted the Lady Blue Devils to score five points. The first half concluded with a score of 23-13, in favor of the Lady Jays.

Coming out of half time, the Lady Jays hit the ground running. The Lady Jays put up nine points, but were followed closely by the Lady Blue Devils obtaining eight points. Finishing up in the final quarter, the Lady Jays earned a concluding 11 points, with Wayne only adding nine points. The final score for the exhilarating game was an ultimate 43-30, with the Lady Jays coming out on top. 

Leading the team with the most points was senior Kenzie Moeller with 15 points. Following her in points was Morgan Moeller with 10 points. Others who scored were Payten Simmons, Faith Lubischer, and Abigail Meier with seven, six, and five points, respectively. 

Regarding the win, coach Darren Sindelar states, “We need to work on paying attention to details. There were little things, both on the offensive and defensive end, that we need to improve on. Overall, I have seen a steady improvement in the girls since the beginning of the season.

The next game will be Thursday, January 14, at Pierce High School against Humphrey St. Francis.


Lady Jays Triumph Aquinas Catholic

On Thursday, January 7, the Pierce High Lady Jays hosted the David City Aquinas Catholic Monarchs handing out a sizable win to the Monarchs with a 50-31 win. 

To start off the game, Pierce put up 14 points, holding the Monarchs to only 10. In the second quarter of the game, the Lady Jays scored 13 points, and allowed Aquinas to score only six points. 

After the halftime break, the Lady Jays came out on fire and scored 12 points, limiting the Monarchs to eight. In the final quarter of the game, the Lady Jays scored 11 points, holding the Monarchs to seven points. The Lady Jays came out on top with the winning score of 50-31. Leading scorer of the game was senior Kenzie Moeller with 21 points. Sophomore Morgan Moeller followed her with 10 points. Also scoring for the Lady Jays were Abby Meier, Payten Simmons, Alexus Sindelar, Gina Wragge, and Ella Gaes with seven, five, four, two, and one point, respectively.

Junior Payten Simmons comments on the win, “Overall I thought we played very well. We hit a lot of our outside shots, and we were constantly talking on defense. One thing we need to work on is boxing out everytime a shot goes up. I believe we are improving each game and everyone is contributing in their own way.” 

The next game for the Lady Jays will be Thursday, January 14, at Pierce High School against Humphrey St. Francis.
