The Bluejays Walk Away with Another Win

by Ella Gaes

On Friday, October 23, the Pierce Bluejay football team was able to walk away with another win against the Wayne Blue Devils with a score of 19-9. The Bluejays are now 8-0 strong in their season.

Assistant coach Tyler Legate commented on the game saying, “Overall I felt we had a lot of mistakes in all three phases in the game. We can definitely work on defensively communicating and our blitzes.”

To start off the game, the Bluejays had the first touchdown and scored two minutes into the game to lead 6-0. Tyler Race ran in from 48-yards out but the extra point failed. Wayne also had a safety in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Wayne made one touchdown making the score 6-9 with Pierce behind.

Right after halftime, neither Pierce nor Wayne scored in the third quarter.

Moving into the fourth quarter, the Bluejays fought back. Abram Scholting connected with Ben Brahmer from 9-yards out. The PAT was good which gave the Bluejays the lead back at 13-9. The second touchdown came from Logan Moeller with a huge interception return. There was a failed PAT. The final score of the game was 19-9.

The Bluejays were able to end with 272 total yards to Wayne’s 199.

Senior running back Race said, “Our execution was not the best at the beginning of the game. We can work on not turning the ball over and not making stupid mistakes.”

The Jays begin the playoffs against West Point-Beemer on Friday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Pierce Athletic Complex.
