Last Friday, September 4, the Pierce Bluejays traveled to Columbus Lakeview for a great victory, with a decisive 41-21 win.
To start off in the first quarter the Bluejays scored with a 9-yard pass from Abram Scholting to Benjamin Brahmer. After the touchdown, Chaden Roth made the point after kick. The Vikings fought back with a 90-yard kickoff return to tie the game at seven for the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bluejays showed up and scored three times. The first score was by Tyler Race with a 3-yard run. The kick from Roth was no good. Then David Dale scored for the Jays with a 9-yard run along with the help of Brahmer with a run for a two-point conversion. The third touchdown came from Michael Kruntorad with the 56-yard pass from Scholting. The point after kick by Roth was good. Because the Bluejays held the Vikings scoreless, the score ending the second quarter was 28-7.
After halftime, the Bluejays didn’t score but the Vikings did, making the end of the third quarter 28-14.
For the finishing fourth quarter, the Jays scored two touchdowns. First, Garret Meier scored after a 55-yard pass from Scholting. The kick from Roth was again good. The second touchdown was made by Race with a 27-yard run. The kick from Roth was no good. The final score was 41-21.
The Bluejays had a total of 560 yards. 354 of those yards were rushing and the remaining 206 were passing.
Head Coach Mark Brahmer said, “We were quite pleased with the overall effort and execution of the team against Lakeview. Lakeview is a very well-coached team with good athletes, so we're happy with the victory. Despite a bit of a lapse in the third quarter, we played well on both sides of the ball. We need to improve our special teams play in multiple areas, so that will be a point of emphasis this week in practice. We will have to shore up a few problem areas there to beat another good North Bend team this coming Friday night.”
The Bluejays play again Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. at the Pierce activities complex against North Bend.
